Lij: Writing, Making, Cooking, Feeling, Doing

"Tonight I'm going to write greatly and love greatly and strangle this folly." --Jack Kerouac (11.11.47) ***** I am 25 years old, and I love words. I married Chalupa in November of 2006, and we live in Indiana. I really like art and music and movies and watching pro cycling. I will spend July 2008 in France researching a book on Tour de France fanatics. In the Fall I'll be starting my MFA in Creative Nonfiction at the University of New Hampshire.

Photo Essay

I know I've described our Alpe d'Huez camping situation to people, but I don't think it can be explained without pictures. And so here are some photos of our "camping spot" on the side of the mountain. That's our car to the right with the orange chairs behind it. The mats were tied up to create some shade. You can see the rock wall to the right of the car, which is partially covered in fencing. That's the fence that held up our American flag and "Go, Floyd!" umbrellas.

Behind the orange chairs was a ditch that has been formed by years and years of re-paving the mountain road. It is about a foot and a half deep, and then there is the cement edge. The grassy area is about three feet wide, but because of the rocks that jut out, you can only stand on about a foot and a half of it. That's where we kept our trash bag, and next to the car is where we created a toilet. This is Mom rigging up some shade. Shortly after that, Bob Roll came by and talked to us for a while. I've got photos of that, too, of course. After 12:30, the shade from the mountain was totally gone, and we had to sit out in the hot sun all day. Fortunately, we had a magic car that doesn't get hot on the inside. Amazing.

PLEASE post some Bob Roll photos! I love him! Was he as hilarious in person as he is as an announcer on OLN?

Thanks, Lij.
